Finish
The long finish begins with rich, sweet dessert notes of graham cracker pie crust and cream puffs, complemented by a caramel drizzle. In 1753, Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded Shenk's Distillery in Pennsylvania. This distillery was later renamed Bomberger's Distillery in the 1800s before its name changed again to Michter's Distillery in the mid-20th Century. It is this heritage that the Michter's Legacy Series honors.
The prospect is not just to try something new, but to explore how aroma, depth, flavor, complexity and finish can be influenced through changing variables to enhance the drinking experience. This year's Bomberger's again brings delight with the whiskey's hallmark Chinquapin Oak coupled with the addition of some Hungarian Oak thereby creating an intriguing, rich chocolate decadence around the cherry and spice attributes synonymous with Chinquapin. Both types of oak were naturally seasoned and air dried for three years with a custom toast and char. It is super exciting to see how the integration of oak flavors can enhance the sophistication and depth of the tasting journey."

While describing the 2026 Shenk's release, Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee said, "In addition to this whiskey being a bit rye forward, we used caramel malted barley which offers a nice caramel bread pudding note that balances the beautiful spice. The cooperage we use includes some 24-month air dried French oak from the Vosges forest as well as some 60-month air dried American oak, and this helps impart a special character to this Shenk's release."
*This is a 700ml bottling of Weller 12 Year with gold foil*
As part of the wheated bourbon family, this twelve year old W.L. Weller is aged far longer than most wheated bourbons. This offering is a smooth, easy-going and balanced offering with a beautiful deep bronze color. Aromas of lanolin, almond, creamed corn and toasty vanilla. The mid-palate flavor is heavily wheated, layered and moderately sweet. Long, oaky, and intensely smooth finish. These gold foil versions are likely going to be a standard for domestic releases soon, however currently the gold foils are being tested in european 700ml sized releases.

The Caboose
From Jim:
"The youngest child in a large family holds a unique position – they’re the recipient of a distinctive focus from both parents and siblings. Just like the last car of the train painted bright red, they stick out. Some of the undeserved attention is positive and some of it is, well, annoying. But a caboose, like a large family, is increasingly rare these days. Both are worth celebrating, ideally with a good bourbon.
"Like previous Fathertime releases, The Caboose was created by me and Stu tasting barrels and blending until we found something smooth, balanced, and worth sharing. Each batch is small and carefully selected, and every bottle is personally signed by me – a process that is admittedly a pain in the ass, but ultimately worth it. Much like fatherhood."
Empty Nester (Cask) Strength
From Jim:
"As my appreciation for bourbon evolved, so did my preference for a stronger pour. That’s why some bottles of The Caboose are released at cask strength (121.0 proof), which I affectionately call 'Empty Nester Strength.'
"When children finally leave the home, parents enter a unique stage in their journey. While empty nesters are often characterized as being victoriously liberated from parental responsibilities, they sometimes also experience a level of grief. The grip of love and fear that permeates parenting grows a little tighter. And some nights that calls for a stronger bourbon."
