The old crow traveler bottling was produced by the old crow distillery which at the time was part of the national distillers corporation portfolio. This particular bottling was made for the “traveling business man” in the 1960s and 70s.   We have a few of these from the same period, some are age stated 6 years and others are not.   This particular product sku does not guarantee an age stated bottling.

National Distillers is one of the most sought after "vintage" producers. Known for it's beautiful flavors of baking spices, fresh cookies and cake. The old crow traveler bottles were produced for "business men" who traveled and flew on planes, created with a bottle mold that was intended to fit inside a suit jacket. Jim beam acquired all national distillers brands in 1987, eventually running out of their distillate in the early 90s. This old crow is nothing like what you can find today.

Produced by Brown Forman in the 1960s, this expression was selected by the President of Brown-Forman especially for "distinguished gentlemen". This was distilled at DSP-KY-414 which is one of the most highly sought after vintage distilleries, responsible for producing Old Forester brand from the end of world war II until 1980.

A fantastic old Prohibition era bottling of Kentucky straight bourbon whisky. Although the Volstead Act of 1919 had banned the production and sale of alcohol throughout the US, a certain number of distilling companies were permitted to continue bottling existing stock, mostly for medicinal use, but also for weekly baking rations. One such company was A. Ph. Stitzel Inc, who procured this particular barrel from the Davies County Distillery (registered distillery 2 in the 2nd district of KY). This distillery was one of the majority that were forced to close after prohibition was enacted. Records show that most of their stock was purchased by the American Medicinal Spirits Company, but some reached smaller companies like A. Ph. Stitzel as well, who bottled this using their Old Mock brand. A. Ph. Stitzel survived Prohibition, and was one of the few to emerge with a functioning distillery, refinancing themselves after the difficult 13 dry years by contract distilling for other companies as well, including the juggernaut Schenley corporation. They would of course would go on to merge with Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle's W.L. Weller company to create the legendary Stitzel-Weller. The "18 Summers Old " phrase on this label was a persistent motif on Stitzel-Weller bottlings too, and can also be seen on some modern Van Winkle bottlings. Bottled in bond - distilled in 1916 and bottled in 1933, shortly before repeal, this includes the standard "medicinal purposes" only label.

Buffalo Trace Distillery has recreated his traditional sour mash and produced a limited edition, one-time offering of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Old Fashioned Sour Mash Bourbon Whiskey for a true bourbon aficionado. A few years prior a gathering of Distillery retirees, a method was recounted for making "Old Fashioned Sour Mash whiskey. Edmund Hayes Taylor Jr. (EHTaylor) was known to use this technique in the late 1800's. Taylor's technique involved allowing the mash to sour naturally for days before distillation. Distilled in 2002, and bottled in 2012, this bourbon is a modern replication of this old-fashioned method. Using Taylor's original sourcing process, the result is a bourbon fo character and body like none other today. The combination of a rare estimated 10 year aging, winning the 2012 Gold Medal as one of the fifty best bourbons, and the extremely rare limited release make this bottle nearly impossible to find.

Last Drop Distillers seeks to find and bring to life the rarest of the rare whiskeys, offering them in extremely limited quantities. Leather, aged oak, earthy, raisin, dark fruit, dark cherry and tobacco on the nose. The taste is the definition of flamboyant with an orchestra of flavors with each flavor harmoniously mingled. Kentucky might be on the fringe of “Tornado Alley,” but even so, those powerful storms seem to be a fixture of life in the Bluegrass. Kentuckians received a fairly vicious reminder of that fact in early March 2012, when twisters tore through the state and left almost two dozen dead. Yet sometimes a tornado strike isn’t all bad, as Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. “Tornado Survivor” bourbon whiskey testifies to. The Colonel E.H. Taylor label is basically a series of Buffalo Trace limited editions (past installments include a single barrel and a 19th century-style sour mash), named for the man who founded the Old Taylor Distillery in 1887 and is known to some as the “father of the modern bourbon industry.” 24,000 barrels of bourbon destined for a Colonel E.H. Taylor bottling were aging in Taylor’s own Warehouse C (dating to 1881) when a tornado struck the Buffalo Trace property in 2006, ripping both it and another empty bourbon warehouse to pieces. The Taylor warehouse lost its roof and some of its walls, and while the barrels emerged from the disaster unscathed, they went on to an almost unique aging experience, as they received the full brunt of the Kentucky summer while the warehouse was painstakingly rebuilt around them. It is hard to understate just how thoroughly “cooked” the bourbon was that summer. I have commented in the past on how important the southern summer heat is to bourbon’s aging vis-à-vis the whiskey’s cousins in Scotland and Ireland, but direct exposure to the sweltering summer climate produced extreme results. The ultimate evaporation rate for the “Tornado Surviving Bourbon,” as Buffalo Trace calls it, was more than doubled to an extreme “angel’s share”

The first release of Van Winkle Family Rye that was distilled at the Medley distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky, in 1998 that was for Japanese export only. The first US release was not until 1999. After 1998, all Van Winkle Reserve Rye bottle numbers were preceded with a letter to signify they were US releases. This particular rye was bottled in 1998, which is unique, as that was a period when Van Winkle bottled in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, before they moved their operations to Frankfort, KY in 2002. Additionally this is a rare "green glass" bottle, as Van Winkle's last year of using handmade green glass for their bottles was 1999.

A whiskey glut was happening in America as sales began to decline at the end of the 60s and continued through the 80s and 90s. Distilleries did not slow down production, assuming the glut was only temporary, but as they realized it wasn't, they had to come up with creative ways to move product. Many distilleries partnered with Non Distiller Producers, to bottle their whiskey under a different brand and export it overseas. This is a 20 year rye distilled in the 80s, most likely by Michter's at their location in Pennsylvania at that time, bottled under a different brand and exported to the Japanese market. It's a wonderful expression of aged pennsylvania rye, the same distillate as the Rye Royal 20year, but in a totally different and more rare bottling brand.

This 12 year old bottled in bond (100pf) expression was distilled at the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery and and Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle himself.  This 4/5 quart size bottle is in impeccable condition and comes complete with a gift box and 2 shot glasses bearing the Old Fitzgerald brand name as well.  The Old Fitzgerald brand was considered a premium bourbon during the age that this was produced and the whiskey inside is considered some of the best and most highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Bond and Lillard brand has existed since the late 1860s and was added to the portfolio of National Distillers from just after prohibition until the distillery closed, however the brand has recently been revived and is reportedly produced at Wild Turkey. This expression was bottled in the 1960s, carries a 6 year age statement and 90 proof, bottled in an enormous half gallon size container back in the days when you could still buy whiskey by the Gallons at stores.
