For the third release of Old Stubborn, master blender Ed Bley chose to highlight the characteristics of the barrels that have made up the marriages previously released. He selected his favorite 12—some wheated bourbon, some rye bourbon, all unbelievable bourbon—to display these dynamics.  The single barrels all range between the specifications below:

Age: 11 to 14-Years

Proof: 117 to 142 proof

Mash Bill: Corn/Rye/Malted Barley

Source: Distilled in West Virginia; Bottled in Kentucky

Tasting Notes: Each of the 12 constellations of the zodiac carries its own trait. Each of the 12 gods on Mt. Olympus have their own strengths. Each of the 12 barrels in the pot stilled single barrel showcase has its own place at the table, distinct and unique.

About: Stubborn is good. There were many opportunities to rush a release, and just get another bourbon onto the overcrowded market. In some ways, it would have been easier to just give in and settle for something, just to get it done.

But people call us stubborn. Some things are worth waiting for, some principles are worth committing to. Sometimes you have acknowledge age old traditions and methods that honor being patient.

People say life is long. It’s not long enough to settle for less than the best. If it takes a little longer, if our lack of urgency has rubbed some folks the wrong way, if we seem a little stubborn in our pursuit - well, we’ve been called worse.
