The Cask Strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is an exclusive HIRSCH release finished in 30-Year-Old Hine Cognac XO barrels, in Bardstown, Kentucky. It’s rich, complex, and a well-rounded whiskey. This expression was brought from a collaboration between HIRSCH Selected Whiskeys and Hine Cognac.

HINE COGNAC Internationally acclaimed for its blends, vintage and extra old cognacs, the 259-year-old cognac house takes pride in its unequalled collection of exceptional cognacs dating back to the 1800s. For us at HIRSCH, this is a unique collaboration with one of the most prestigious Cognac distilleries.

54 barrels of our 6-year-old bourbon were selected to finish in 30-year-old XO Hine Cognac casks for 18 months, adding subtle yet noticeable character of Cognac to our bourbon. This unique expression has a mash bill of 72% corn, 13% rye, 15% malted barley. On the nose, it offers notes of dusty cherry and charred citrus with a palate of over ripe stone fruit, fresh raisin, soft heat, and finishes dry yet flavors continue to develop.

A H Hirsch bottlings are some of the highest rated and most sought after bottlings of vintage whiskey around. The brand has a historical lure to it, with bottlings for the brand being done by Julian Van Winkle III and most likely being sourced from similar stocks as to what he was using for his own bottlings. Many of the Hirsch bottlings were exported overseas rather than being released domestically which further adds to the legend. Although many variants were released under the Hirsch label —15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20yr-olds—the 15yr gold wax "script" variant is sought after because of its Lawrenceburg bottling location, Japanese export status and overall rarity.

The Hirsch distillate was copper pot distilled in 1974 by Pennco and is believed to have yielded a 400-barrel batch. Many of the early releases of A.H. Hirsch appeared in small batches, which Julian Van Winkle III bottled on an almost order-by-order basis. There was little consistency in label design, and as a result, there is great variety among the early bottlings. This bottle is a case in point: Though it is the same age as the previous Hirsch releases, its label shows the Hirsch name in a stylized cursive script – a small difference that nevertheless makes this bottle a prized possession.
