Nose: Rich and complex. Enticing aromas of caramelized red fruit compote, dried figs, raisins, and dark chocolate, layered with subtle hints of aromatic sandalwood (Mizunara) and leathery oak.

Yamazaki is Suntory's flagship single malt whisky, from Japan's first and oldest malt distillery. This 12 year old first came onto the market in 1984 and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt whisky. Since then, it has acquired something of a cult following, and for good reason! The Suntory whiskies are handcrafted at Japan's oldest distillery, built by the founder of Suntory--Shinjiro Torii--in 1923. This was named "Best in Class" at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2006 and awarded a Double Gold Medal at the 2005 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. This will wow any fan of single malt whisky with its spicy cherry, date, toffee and orange notes and its long, dry finish.
A pure malt whisky that is characterized by the deep and flavorful richness with excellent balance that is unique to its age. A blend of rich ripe fruit and aged cask on the nose with complex changes in character as the finish approaches.
Aged predominantly in umeshu (Japanese apricot liqueur) casks, Hibiki is soft, spicy, round and smooth with no heat from ethanol and barely any tannin. There are notes of dark fruit compote, lapin cherry, and the sweetest kind of cigar smoke, more of a vanilla e-cigarette. The palate is buttery, round and soft; the finish long.

A world renowned Japanese blend, Hibiki 17 Year Old is made with aged malt and grain whiskies from Suntory's distilleries. Initially released in 1989, the blend is matured in Japanese mizunara oak casks at Yamazaki. Hibiki means harmony, which has certainly been achieved in this wonderful and iconic blend.

Malt whiskeys matured 12 years or longer are perfectly matched with mellow grain whiskies of the same age to create this Hibiki offering. Also included is some whisky from casks formerly used in long-term aging of Japanese plum liqueur, which helps bring out the sweet floral notes on the nose and palate that Suntory whisky is known for. Adding venerable malt aged more than 30 years further brings out the bouquet and adds body to the palate.
