Elmer T Lee 40th Anniversary - Uncut and Unfiltered (135.4 Proof)

(8)

$1,499.00

Buffalo Trace Distillery proudly announces the release of Elmer T. Lee 40th Anniversary Edition, the first-ever uncut and unfiltered expression of Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon. Debuting four decades after the original Elmer T. Lee Bourbon was released, this limited offering honors the legacy of one of the industry’s most influential pioneers and offers enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience this iconic whiskey in its purest form.

Elmer T. Lee’s legacy at Buffalo Trace Distillery began in 1949, when he joined the then-George T. Stagg Distillery as a maintenance engineer following his service in World War II and graduation from the University of Kentucky. Over the next four decades, he rose to become Master Distiller, helping guide the Distillery through a transformative era of modernization and growth while shaping the future of bourbon.

A visionary ahead of his time, Lee fundamentally changed the American whiskey landscape in 1984 with the introduction of Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon, the world’s first single-barrel bourbon and a concept that helped pioneer the premiumization of bourbon. To honor his enduring impact, the Distillery introduced Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon in 1986, a namesake expression that directly reflects his commitment to careful selection and consistency. Its combination of craftsmanship, authenticity and legacy has made it a benchmark for both enthusiasts and collectors.

“Elmer’s legacy is something we feel and celebrate every day at the Distillery, not just in the bourbon we make, but in the way we approach our work,” said Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. “His commitment to craftsmanship guided not only our future at Buffalo Trace, but it also helped set the course for American whiskey as a whole. I was fortunate to learn from Elmer early in my career, and his guidance left a lasting impression on how I approach my work. Releasing this rare whiskey in his honor is incredibly meaningful and a privilege for all of us at the Distillery.”

Now, 40 years after its debut, Buffalo Trace Distillery is unveiling a bold new expression of this connoisseur-respected bourbon. For the first time, Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon is presented uncut and unfiltered, drawn directly from the barrel without dilution or chill filtration. This approach is a reflection of how Elmer evaluated barrels for Blanton’s selection, providing enthusiasts with the opportunity to experience the whiskey as he would have.

The barrels selected for the 40th Anniversary Edition of Elmer T. Lee Bourbon were chosen for their richness and individuality, each bottled at its natural barrel proof to preserve a more robust, unaltered profile. Across the collection, notes of apricot, almond, vanilla, toasted coconut and honeysuckle lead to a rich, chewy palate with crème brûlée-like sweetness and a long finish of toasted oak and baking spice. Ranging from 124.8 to 138.6 proof, each barrel offers a subtle variation in character, structure and intensity.

“For the first time, we’re sharing Elmer T. Lee Bourbon exactly as it comes from the barrel,” said Erica Bovard, Senior Brand Director, American Whiskey. “By offering it uncut and unfiltered, we’re able to highlight the depth and character of the whiskey while staying true to the standards Elmer set. We think fans will love this release, and importantly, it’s one we believe Elmer would be proud of.”

Raise a Glass: Unique Ideas to Toast the New Year

New Year's Eve is steeped in tradition, and no element of celebration feels more iconic than the ceremonial toast. While Champagne has been the classic choice, bourbon and whiskey offer a sophisticated, bold, and uniquely American alternative, inviting a new perspective on starting the year. Whiskey’s depth of flavor, warmth, and cultural significance make it an exceptional choice for ushering in the new year. These spirits embody the craftsmanship, resilience, and richness of experience that align perfectly with the promise of new beginnings. The Allure of American Whiskey: A Timeless Tradition American whiskey has long been a symbol of heritage and innovation, with bourbon at its core. More than just a drink, it represents the pioneering spirit of the United States, making it an inspired choice for a celebratory toast. Unlike Champagne, which is synonymous with luxury and sparkle, bourbon is robust, authentic, and deeply rooted in Americana. Toasting with bourbon on New Year’s Eve sets the stage for a tradition that celebrates history while looking forward to the future. An Iconic Bourbon for Iconic Celebrations Few spirits command the reverence and acclaim of Pappy Van Winkle, a name synonymous with rarity and excellence in bourbon craftsmanship. Produced by the Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery, this bourbon embodies a legacy of tradition and an uncompromising dedication to quality, making it an extraordinary choice for a New Year’s Eve celebration. Each bottle of Pappy Van Winkle is meticulously crafted, featuring a wheated bourbon recipe that lends a softer, smoother profile. Its buttery texture, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and baking spices, is complemented by a rich complexity that lingers on the palate. The exclusivity of Pappy Van Winkle makes it not just a drink but a statement—a toast that honors tradition while looking boldly toward the future. American Craftsmanship in Every Pour Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon stands as a testament to American ingenuity and attention to detail, being the original single-barrel bourbon that set the standard for excellence. Each bottle is hand-selected from the middle sections of Warehouse H, where temperature variations enhance the bourbon’s flavor profile, ensuring a consistently exceptional product. With its rich notes of caramel, vanilla, and warm spices, Blanton’s delivers a smooth yet bold experience, perfect for savoring during a New Year’s Eve celebration. The iconic horse-and-jockey stopper adds an extra touch of tradition and collectability, making it a centerpiece-worthy bottle for your toast. Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon is more than a drink—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, care, and the timeless traditions that elevate any occasion into something truly special. Global Spirits: A World of Flavor and Connection Exploring global whiskies that complement American bourbons, add a layer of depth and sophistication to your celebration. Scotch, Irish, and Japanese bring unique stories and flavors to the table, offering a new way to toast the coming year while honoring the diversity of craftsmanship worldwide. From the smoky richness of a fine Scotch to the smooth elegance of Irish whiskey and the refined balance of Japanese whisky, each bottle carries the heritage of its homeland. Including these global options in your celebration allows you to complement the robust character of bourbon with styles that are equally crafted but distinct in their approach. Scotch Whisky: A Taste of History Scotland’s whisky-making traditions are legendary, offering an unparalleled range of styles from the peaty Islay malts to the smooth elegance of Highland single malts. Glenmorangie Signet Single Malt Scotch is a standout example of Scotland’s craftsmanship, making it a fitting choice for a celebratory New Year’s toast. Crafted with a combination of the distillery’s signature malted chocolate barley and rare, aged whiskies matured in bespoke casks, Glenmorangie Signet offers a velvety texture and rich, layered flavors. Notes of dark chocolate, honey, and spice create a luxurious profile that’s approachable yet sophisticated—perfect for marking the start of a new year in style. Irish Whiskey: Smooth and Sophisticated Irish whiskey is renowned for its soft, smooth finish and approachable character, making it a perfect choice for celebrations that call for comfort and refinement. Redbreast 15 Year Irish Whiskey exemplifies these qualities with an exceptional balance of fruit, spice, and oak. This triple-distilled, single-pot still whiskey is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, lending it a complex profile with layers of rich dried fruit, toasted wood, and subtle spice. Its velvety texture and warm finish make it versatile enough for a celebratory toast and a natural complement to rich, festive meals. Japanese Whisky: A Modern Classic The artistry of Japanese whisky has captivated enthusiasts worldwide, blending centuries-old traditions with modern innovation to create spirits of unparalleled elegance. Hibiki Harmony is a gleaming example of this dedication to balance and precision, making it a standout choice for a New Year’s Eve toast. This meticulously crafted blend draws from an array of malt and grain whiskies, aged in five different types of casks, including Japanese Mizunara oak. The result is a whisky with a floral aroma, delicate honeyed sweetness, and a silky palate, finishing with a hint of subtle spice. Its nuanced flavors and exquisite presentation make Hibiki Harmony not just a drink but a conversation piece, perfect for celebrating the dawn of a new year. But this isn’t about choosing one over the other—it’s about creating a richer experience. A thoughtful selection of American and global whiskies invites your guests to explore the best of both worlds, blending time-honored traditions with a sense of curiosity and refinement. From Table to Toast: Crafting a Whiskey-Inspired New Year’s Eve We’ve shared exceptional ideas for toasting the new year, but what about the moments leading up to that special clink of glasses? A celebration as meaningful as New Year’s Eve deserves an evening that’s as unique and memorable as the toast itself. By planning a menu that complements the sophistication of whiskey, you set a positive, inviting tone that resonates throughout the night—and into the year ahead. For those centering their gathering around a bold bourbon or refined whisky, every element of the evening can enhance the experience. From the first bite to the final sip, pairing the right dishes with your chosen spirit creates a cohesive, unforgettable celebration. Here’s how to build a menu that reflects the elegance and warmth of whiskey: Dinner Pairings: Slow-roasted beef tenderloin, maple-glazed salmon, or hearty mushroom risotto bring out the rich caramel, oak, and spice notes of bourbon and other whiskies. For a smoky Scotch whisky, grilled lamb or smoked salmon is a natural pairing, while the lighter elegance of Japanese whisky is complemented by miso-glazed black cod or delicate tempura. Desserts: Whiskey’s robust flavors are the perfect match for sweet, spiced, and decadent desserts. Pecan pie, spiced apple tarts, or dark chocolate truffles bring out the complexity in the spirit, from bourbon’s depth to the smooth finish of Irish whiskey. Charcuterie: A thoughtfully curated charcuterie board is a show-stopper for any party. Aged cheddar, smoked gouda, or creamy Brie paired with apricot preserves balance the warmth of whiskey. Cured meats, toasted pecans, and a drizzle of honey tie everything together into a luxurious spread your guests will savor. By designing a menu as unique and thoughtful as your whiskey selection, you create an evening that flows seamlessly into the toast, offering your guests a celebration they’ll remember and cherish as they step into the new year. National Bourbon Day Deserves Something Better Than Your Bottom Shelf

There are national days for everything—National Donut Day, National Pet Your Dog Day (real one), and even National Clean Your Fridge Day (we’re ignoring that one). But National Bourbon Day? That’s a holiday we actually want to celebrate. Every June 14th, we honor America’s native spirit the best way we know how: by cracking open a bottle that matters—whether that’s your favorite everyday sipper or a unicorn bottle you’ve been saving for just the right moment. At The Bourbon Concierge, we’re here to make sure you have both. So pour a glass, light a cigar (if that’s your thing), and let’s talk history, hits, and how to make this Bourbon Day the best one yet. Why Is Bourbon Day Celebrated on June 14? Glad you asked. Bourbon has been around for centuries, but it wasn’t until June 14, 1789, that the Rev. Elijah Craig—a Baptist minister with a flair for distilling—allegedly poured the first batch of what would become America’s signature spirit. Was he the first? Maybe. Does it make a great story? Absolutely. (History, after all, is best served neat.) Fast forward to 1964, when the U.S. Congress officially declared bourbon “a distinctive product of the United States.” That means if it ain’t made here, it ain’t bourbon. It also means this uniquely American spirit—aged in new charred oak barrels and made with at least 51% corn—deserves a national toast. And when it comes to icons worth toasting, few rise to the occasion quite like Buffalo Trace. From Tradition to Titans: The Rise of Buffalo Trace You can’t talk about bourbon—especially on National Bourbon Day—without tipping your hat to Buffalo Trace. As one of the most awarded distilleries in the world and home to some of the most beloved names in whiskey, this Kentucky icon has been doing things the right way for over two centuries. Originally founded as the Old Fire Copper Distillery (O.F.C.) in the late 1700s, Buffalo Trace survived Prohibition by producing medicinal whiskey (we approve), and eventually became the backbone of some of the most legendary brands in the game. Today, the distillery produces E.H. Taylor, W.L. Weller, George T. Stagg, Pappy Van Winkle, and of course, the humble hero that bears the company’s name: Buffalo Trace Bourbon. So, what makes Buffalo Trace so iconic? It’s the perfect trifecta: history, consistency, and an uncanny ability to produce bottles that make both newbies and collectors nod in approval. And nowhere is that more obvious than in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection—the once-a-year release that sends bourbon fans into a frenzy and showcases the distillery’s most exceptional expressions. A few standouts: George T. Stagg – Uncut, unfiltered, and legendary for its intensity. Deep, dark, and not for the faint of heart. William Larue Weller – A wheated masterpiece with warm caramel, spice, and that signature long, velvety finish. Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye – A powerhouse rye that delivers bold citrus and baking spice in a high-proof package. So National Bourbon Day isn’t just a reason to drink (though, fair). It’s a celebration of American ingenuity, tradition, and the unmatched art of turning grain, time, and wood into something unforgettable. Approachable Bourbons to Celebrate Right Now Let’s start with the good stuff that doesn’t require a collector’s vault or a special occasion—just a love for a well-made pour. These bottles are perfect for a first-time Bourbon Day toast or restocking your bar cart with something tried-and-true. Eagle Rare 10 Year Smooth, well-aged, and complex enough to sip but affordable enough to share—especially in this party-sized bottle. It’s one of our go-to recommendations for bourbon beginners and longtime fans alike. Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon You know the one—with the racehorse topper. The 375mL format makes it ideal for gifting or introducing a friend to the single-barrel legend that started it all. Expect honey, spice, and a finish that lingers. Three Crosses Old Red Fez Bourbon Made in Virginia and beloved by bartenders who like their whiskey smooth but not boring. Red Fez is easygoing in cocktails but flavorful enough to enjoy neat. A little hometown hero that punches above its proof. Rare Bottles for the Collector (Or the Curious) Alright, now let’s talk about the showstoppers—the bottles that whisper you deserve this every time you walk by the shelf. Whether you’re treating yourself or hunting something special for your collection, these are our top National Bourbon Day picks. Blue Run “Chosen” – The Bourbon Concierge & T8KE Private Selection This isn’t just rare—it’s personal. Our team hand-selected this barrel for its bold, creamy body and warm finish. Expect baking spice, orchard fruit, and that oh-so-luxurious viscosity that tells you you’ve found something worth lingering over. Booker’s 2025-01 “Barry’s Batch” Uncut and unfiltered, this expression brings classic Booker’s heat with a softened edge. Named after longtime Beam employee Barry Youn, it’s everything we love about this high-proof line: strong, proud, and endlessly sip-worthy. Penelope Rio Finished in both Amburana and honey casks, this one practically sings in the glass. Brazilian wood gives it a cinnamon-roll warmth, while the honey adds a gentle sweetness. You’re not imagining it—it really is that good. Blood Oath Pact 10 Think rich oak, dark cherry, leather, and spice in a layered blend that feels like bourbon dressed for a black-tie affair. A beautiful bottle with a story to match—it’s perfect for marking the day. Old Forester 1924 Age-stated at 10 years, this bottle pays tribute to the Prohibition-era spirit that kept the Old Forester name alive. Full-bodied and elegant, it’s a walk through bourbon history with a distinctly modern finish. Three Crosses 10-42 End of Watch A powerful tribute to service and sacrifice, this limited release brings depth, dignity, and craftsmanship to every pour. It’s a bottle that asks you to pause—and appreciate. For the Unicorn Hunters: One-of-a-Kind, One-in-Stock These don’t last long. They don’t restock. And they certainly don’t collect dust on our shelves. If you’re reading this and one’s still available, take it as a sign from the bourbon gods. Michter's 20 Year (2021 & 2022 vintages) – Velvet-rich and legendary. Old Rip Van Winkle 25-Year Decanter – A glass-encased icon with mythic status. Michter’s Celebration Sour Mash 2022 – Batch 4 – Elegance bottled. Colonel E.H. Taylor Cured Oak – The barrel speaks here, and it speaks volumes. Buffalo Trace OFC 2005 – History in liquid form, bottled in crystal and luxury. William Heavenhill 15 Year (4th Edition) – We have two cask strengths (144.6 and 135.6) if you’re feeling indecisive... or decadent. These bottles are here for the collectors, the enthusiasts, and the celebrants who know that National Bourbon Day isn’t just a gimmick—it’s a moment. Drink of the Day: The 1964 Old Fashioned In honor of the year bourbon was officially recognized as America’s spirit, we’re raising a glass to our favorite riff on a classic. 1964 Old Fashioned – The Bourbon Concierge Signature Ingredients: 2 oz Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye 1 tsp maple syrup 2 dashes Fee Brothers Black Walnut Bitters Instructions: Build in a rocks glass over a large cube. Stir gently until chilled. Garnish with expressed lemon and orange peels. Optional: Grate fresh nutmeg or cinnamon over the top for a warm, aromatic finish. At The Bourbon Concierge, we love swapping the expected bourbon in an Old Fashioned for a bold, expressive rye. The Michter’s Barrel Strength brings rich spice and complexity, while the maple and walnut bitters give the drink a warm, toasty edge. It’s smooth, serious, and just a little indulgent—like every great Bourbon Day pour should be. Happy National Bourbon Day! This isn’t just about a drink—it’s about a tradition. A celebration of craftsmanship. A reason to slow down and raise a glass to the past, present, and future of bourbon. Whether you’re discovering a new favorite or pulling the cork on something once-in-a-lifetime, Bourbon Day is your invitation to savor something meaningful. So call up your whiskey friends. Make our 1964 Old Fashioned. Toast to Elijah Craig and everyone who came after. And if you’re still looking for the perfect bottle? We’ve got one with your name on it. Happy National Bourbon Day from all of us at The Bourbon Concierge. -- Preview photo by Diego Henao
