For the past 9 years, Heaven Hill has released a special edition whiskey in honor of treasured former Master Distiller Parker Beam. This year's Parker's Heritage release is an 8 year old, non-chill filtered whiskey with a mash bill of 65% malted barley and 35% corn. With intense, sweet flavors of caramel popcorn and peanuts, you could say this is a real Cracker Jack of a whiskey! Dried fruits give this big, rich bruiser some needed acidity. As is typical with these high proof releases, it goes down a bit hot. Best enjoyed (on a porch at dusk, optional) with a large rock to take some of the edge off and allow the flavors to mellow in the glass.
The barrel is toasted lightly, rather than heavily charred in the style of a traditional bourbon barrel. The lighter toast on this second barrel imparts different flavors—they produce more baking spice flavors like cinnamon and vanilla, as opposed to the deeper burnt sugar and oak notes that come from charring. Light wood, fresh dough, fresh washed mushrooms and a hint of smoke are all present. Honey, vanilla and light caramel jumped out at me with a subtle hint of smoke on the palate. Surprisingly a strong sense of smoked wood was very present at the start of this finish.

Originally released in 2015, E.H. Taylor, Jr. Cured Oak Bourbon Whiskey is a 100-proof, Bottled-in-Bond bourbon is aged 10 years in barrels constructed from white oak staves that were air-dried for 13 months – more than twice the standard curing time. This extended curing process allows the whiskey to extract deeper, more complex flavors from the oak during maturation. This bourbon delivers a rich and inviting profile with notes of tobacco, dried fruit, vanilla and toffee, complemented by undertones of seasoned oak and a long, dry finish. The expression highlights the profound impact that barrel craftsmanship can have on the final character of a whiskey.
“What you notice with Cured Oak is the added depth and complexity that comes from the extended curing process," said Wheatley. "Most of our barrels are cured for six months, but with this release the extended curing brings forward richer notes that create a longer, more layered finish.”
Highly regarded as the “Father of the Modern Bourbon Industry,” Colonel Taylor purchased O.F.C. Distillery, now known as Buffalo Trace Distillery, in 1869. He is credited with implementing many of the innovative techniques still used today, including advanced grain handling, copper fermentation tanks and steam-heated warehouses. Taylor also played a pivotal role in the passage of the Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, which established quality standards that continue to shape the industry.
“Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. was a true pioneer whose commitment to craftsmanship helped redefine what bourbon could be,” said Charley Costa, Brand Manager, Whiskey, Buffalo Trace Distillery

Ki One Batch 1 Virgin American Oak Korean Single Malt Whisky ABV 40% 700ml
“Ki Wan” in Korean means the beginning and hope. These two themes perfectly encapsulate the spirit as it is at the beginning of the single malt whisky journey from Korea to the world.
The distillery is nestled in the Namyangju Mountains, north-east of Seoul. In summer, the spirits are baked in the Korean sunshine, and the heat allows the spirit to penetrate deep into the wood. In winter, the sunlight doesn’t rise above the Baekbong Mountain, casting a long winter shadow over the spirit, while the extreme cold pushes it out into the cask, having extracted an array of aromas.
