The Eagle Has Landed. 20 Years of Silence. The Absolute Pinnacle of Buffalo Trace.
In the hierarchy of fine American whiskey, there is Rare, there is Very Rare, and then there is the Double Eagle. Released in strictly limited quantities, the Double Eagle Very Rare 2026 edition of represents the absolute ceiling of the Buffalo Trace Distillery’s maturation program. This is a bourbon defined by the number two: two decades of aging, and the two majestic crystal eagles that guard its contents.
The Decades of Distillation
Aged for twice as long as the standard Eagle Rare, this 20-year-old expression has survived the "angel’s share" of two decades in the heart of Kentucky’s most famous rickhouses. Only a handful of barrels possess the structural integrity to reach this age without being overwhelmed by the wood. The result is a liquid that is dark, dense, and remarkably vibrant.
-
Nose: An opulent symphony of dark maraschino cherry, toasted oak, and old-growth cedar. Deep undertones of Madagascar vanilla bean and dark chocolate-covered espresso beans drift through the glass.
-
Palate: Profoundly complex. The initial hit is a wave of caramelized sugar and dark plum, followed by the sophisticated "antique" taste of aged leather, pipe tobacco, and campfire smoke. Its viscosity is legendary, coating the palate in a silken, oily texture.
-
Finish: Exceptionally long and drying. It leaves a lingering memory of clove, star anise, and oak tannins, finished with a final, sweet kiss of dried dark fruits.
The Presentation: Artistry in Glass
The liquid is housed in a handcrafted crystal decanter that is a masterpiece of glasswork. Two beautifully sculpted eagles—one acting as the stopper and the other shimmering within the floor of the bottle—symbolize the rarity and grace of the spirit inside. Each bottle is presented in a shimmering silver case that lights up when opened, signaling that a true treasure has been unveiled. Very few bottles were produced, with an individually-numbered letter of authenticity included with each.

I.W. Harper 101 Proof Gold Medal Bourbon (1970's Vintage Edition)
The Bold Icon. 101 Proof Intensity. A Rare Legend of the Bernheim Era.
In the world of vintage "dusty" bourbon, the 101-proof expressions from I.W. Harper are the stuff of legends. While the standard 86 proof was built for the casual sipper, the 101 Proof Gold Medal was engineered for the connoisseur. This is a high-proof time capsule from the mid-to-late 20th century, offering a level of richness, spice, and "old-school" Kentucky muscle that has largely vanished from modern shelves.
The Vintage Profile: High-Proof Heritage
Distilled at the historic Bernheim Distillery during the height of its craftsmanship, the 101 proof expression carries the same elegant, corn-forward sweetness of the brand but delivers it with a concentrated punch. The extra ABV preserves the essential oils and esters, resulting in a significantly "chewier" and more aromatic experience.
-
Nose: Intense and inviting. Deep aromas of burnt sugar, maple syrup, and dark cherries. Beneath the sweetness lies the classic vintage notes, a mix of old leather, cigar box, and a hint of herbal mint.
-
Palate: Full-bodied and explosive. The 50.5% ABV carries heavy notes of buttery toffee, cinnamon-red-hot candies, and dark cocoa. It possesses a remarkable "viscosity" that coats the palate, showcasing the quality of the grains used decades ago.
-
Finish: Long, spicy, and triumphant. A warming waves of charred oak, peppercorn, and vanilla bean that refuses to quit.
The Bourbon Collector's Perspective
The 101 Proof I.W. Harper is increasingly difficult to find, as much of this stock was originally designated for the international export market, particularly Japan, where it became a cult favorite. Finding a well-preserved bottle today is like discovering a lost masterwork. It is the perfect bridge between the approachable Gold Medal profile and the raw power of a cask-strength "dusty."

I.W. Harper Gold Medal Kentucky Straight Bourbon (1970s Edition)
Step back into the 1970s, a decade where the "Gold Medal" wasn't just a label, but a standard. This vintage bottling of I.W. Harper 86 Proof Bourbon represents a rare opportunity to taste Kentucky history in its most elegant form. Distilled during an era when I.W. Harper was a global icon of sophistication, this "dusty" bottle offers a flavor profile that modern automated distilling simply cannot replicate.
The Vintage Profile: Deep, Dark, and Decadent
Whiskey from this era is celebrated for its "old-school" concentration. Because these barrels were often aged longer than their labels suggested due to the "bourbon glut" of the 70s, the liquid is remarkably dense and honeyed.
-
Nose: An immediate wave of antique oak and "dusty" warehouse funk. It opens into rich butterscotch, dried apricots, and a distinct note of beeswax and old leather.
-
Palate: Silky and medium-bodied. At 86 proof, it is incredibly approachable, yet surprisingly complex. Expect layers of clover honey, Werther’s Original caramels, and a soft, floral rye spice, fruity jam sweetness that has mellowed beautifully over five decades.
-
Finish: Clean and warming. A gentle fade of sweet tobacco, vanilla bean, and a lingering touch of charred oak that reminds you of its storied Kentucky heritage.
Why the 1970s Bottling?
For the serious enthusiast, 1970s I.W. Harper is a cornerstone of any vintage collection. This was the era of the Bernheim Distillery influence, characterized by a refined, corn-forward sweetness that made Harper the "Gold Medal" standard worldwide. Whether you are celebrating a 50th anniversary or seeking the elusive "dusty" flavor profile, this bottle is a liquid landmark.

Ten years ago, before rye whiskey's present-day popularity, Eddie Russell hand-selected and laid down what would eventually become Master's Keep Triumph. Inspired by the affinity that his son, Associate Blender Bruce Russell, has for rye, Eddie began exploring the possibilities offered by the spicy and bold style of whiskey. After a decline in popularity post-prohibition, many distillers pulled the spirit from shelves while Wild Turkey held true to its convictions and continued to produce top-quality rye with mainstay products like Wild Turkey 101 Rye. The name Triumph speaks to the contemporary revival of rye whiskey, now recognized for its quality and distinctive profile, and to Wild Turkey's reverence for all the spirit has to offer.
"The Master's Keep series continues to be a display of our creativity and quality at Wild Turkey. We've always seen the collection as a vehicle to tell stories that celebrate our heritage and who we are as a distillery," says Wild Turkey's Master Distiller Eddie Russell. "This particular release was inspired by Bruce's fondness for rye and is a nod to his influence on my work. Triumph is a rye you'll be proud to serve neat and is a testament to the tenacity of the spirit."
The Master's Keep series first started in 2015 as a way for Master Distiller Eddie Russell to showcase his unique approach to making bourbon. Triumph is the second rye whiskey to be released within the series, following Master's Keep Cornerstone in 2019. Building upon the high standard set by Cornerstone and fan favorites Wild Turkey 101 Rye and Rare Breed Rye, Triumph serves as an evolution of the distillery's rye craftsmanship while proudly donning the oldest age statement ever for a Wild Turkey rye.
Master's Keep Triumph's extended maturation helped to develop a complex and bold flavor profile that's consistent with the high quality that fans have come to expect from the Master's Keep collection. The 104-proof expression features sweet honey and clove notes that transition to dark chocolate, dates and spice with a rich mocha-coffee and black pepper finish. While conventional ryes are enjoyed by many in cocktails, Master's Keep Triumph gives reason to enjoy rye on the rocks or neat.
