The Balvenie 19 Year Old A Revelation of Cask & Character Single Malt Scotch Whisky
$499.00
Unit price perThe Balvenie 19 Year Old A Revelation of Cask & Character Single Malt Scotch Whisky
$499.00
Unit price perA Revelation of Cask and Character is the result of years of curiosity and learning from The Balvenie coopering team, including Head Cooper Ian McDonald and Balvenie apprentices... but our story begins with an unexpected discovery even longer ago...
The folklore says Oak casks were used to transport whisky across the British Isles, hundreds of years ago. By the time the casks reached their destination, the whisky would have taken on some of the depth and richness of whatever liquid these casks once held. And so, storage in certain casks became a conscious choice rather than a circumstantial one. Over time, the use of Oak casks became instrumental in the quality and final flavor of the whisky.
With a deep sense of curiosity, Ian and his team have traveled around the world uncovering and exchanging skills and expertise, passed from generation to generation. One trip in particular to a bodega in Jerez, Spain in 2009, inspired this innovation that nods to the beauty and great character of casks.
Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie describes this unique 19-year-old Balvenie as “ a really rich expression, with familiar honey smoothness revealing layers of spice and intense ripe fruits” and “the perfect way to showcase the journey of our Coopers.”
James Suckling gave this wine 98 points saying, “A driven and serious DP with aromas of chalk, biscuits, apricot stones and lemons. Some spice and dried flowers, too. So sleek and sophisticated. Elegant. Yet, it’s long and powerful, with a sharp minerality. Tight and precise.”
Wine Spectator scored this wine 96 points noting, “Vivid acidity and a chalky underpinning make a crystalline frame for finely detailed notes of ripe melon, mandarin orange, toasted brioche and candied ginger in this harmonious Champagne, which is expressive and expansive on the palate, but with a sense of finesse and restraint. Long and creamy on the mineral-laced finish. Drink now through 2037. ”
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave this wine 95 points saying, “Disgorged in October last year, the 2013 Dom Pérignon is a lovely wine, defined by the long, cool growing season. Offering up aromas of crisp stone fruit, tangerine oil, buttered toast, pear, almonds and clear honey, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, with bright acids and a pillowy, enveloping profile, concluding with a long, saline finish. Vincent Chaperon recalls that shatter at fruit set moderated yields and that a drying east wind in the weeks before harvest helped to maintain the good sanitation necessary to wait to pick at full maturity.”

TIME, AN ABSTRACT ENTITY, ACCUMULATES IN LAYERS
IT IS VISIBLE IN A ROCKY VALLEY’S MANY SOLID STRATA; LAID DOWN OVER MILLENNIA, WORN SMOOTH BY WIND AND RAIN. AND WITH LAYERS COMES COMPLEXITY. WHICH IS WHY GLENFIDDICH 40 IS SO MUCH MORE THAN AN EXEMPLARY SINGLE MALT. THIS RARE SINGLE MALT IS MADE THROUGH REMNANT VATTING, A PIONEERING PROCESS IN WHICH OUR MALT MASTER CARRIES ONE BATCH OVER, TIME AND AGAIN, AND MARRIES IT WITH THE CASKS SELECTED FOR EACH SUBSEQUENT RELEASE. CASK AFTER CASK, SEASON AFTER SEASON, IT ABSORBS THE EVOLVING FLAVOURS OF THE PASSING YEARS. MELDING THE MANY LIQUID LAYERS OF IT’S FOUR-DECADE FORMULATION TO CREATE AN EXTRAORDINARY EXPRESSION. IT IS TIME, AGE, EXPERIENCE ACCUMULATED. PHYSICAL. TANGIBLE. LAYER UPON LAYER OF MAVERICK THINKING, MADE MANIFEST.

The color of “Storyteller Batch” is a rich amber with a golden shine. Sitting in your glass, the scent of a great bourbon fills the room and invites you to further explore the brown sugar aroma. The taste is delightful and well-balanced, with notes of vanilla and wood. I tasted this batch on a drizzly September day. There was a slight chill in the air and it reminded me that fall is just around the corner, and this bourbon has the perfect warm finish for the days to come. A little bit of water further opened the tasting experience for me, but you can enjoy it any way you please. Storyteller Batch is just the way Dad would have wanted it when he created this brand over thirty years ago - I can almost hear him telling one of his great stories while he sips a glass of his own. I hope you enjoy this batch as much as I do!
