The Kavalan Distillery in Taiwan was founded in 2005 by T.T. Lee, president of the Taiwanese food conglomerate King Car Group. His greatest wish was to open his own whisky distillery in Taiwan. Kavalan is the name of the Yilan region, which lies southeast of the capital Taipei. An important reason for choosing this location is the excellent water quality. In Yilan, there is enough cold spring water flowing through Snow Mountain. The Solist range of Kavalan Distillery includes specially selected barrels from the Master Blenders. These barrels are known for their individual character and fine quality. 'Fino' is the Spanish word for 'fine' and is the driest and lightest of all traditional sherries. This whiskey matures in the finest Fino sherry casks. The Abraham Bowman collection of experimental, limited-edition whiskies began in 2010 with the release of Abraham Bowman Rye Whiskey. Since, A. Smith Bowman Distillery has released 22 experiments that have challenged whiskey-making methodologies and captivated fans.

Recently, ASB has put a specific focus on exploring oak varietals with its latest collection, The Abraham Bowman Oak Series. For the series inaugural release, the experimental distillery is sharing its take on whiskey aged in French Oak barrels. This is the first of multiple releases that explores oak varietals and its impact on American whiskey maturation.

Rochelt Distillery Basel Cherry Schnapps is a cherry schnapps made from the sour wild cherries that grow in the Jura Mountains, where Rochelt Distillery Basel is located. The cherries are harvested in late summer and autumn, and the juice is fermented to produce a clear, sweet spirit. The spirit is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years, during which time it develops a rich, complex flavor. Rochelt Distillery Basel Cherry Schnapps is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed in cocktails.

Aged twelve years at Buffalo Trace Distillery, this bourbon is rich and sweet, drawing its character from barrels made of French Oak. An oak that has long been used for aging the world’s finest wine, the tighter grain of French Oak impart more subtle flavors and a silkier texture than its American counterpart. Harvested from the forests of France, the oak barrels that aged this unique bourbon whiskey are honored with each sip. Cynar is a much loved Italian bitter liqueur, named for the artichokes (Cynara Scolymus) that are the main flavouring ingredients. This is from the 1970s.

Established in 2018 by a company with long standing expertise making traditional Japanese drinks, their is one overarching principle at Yuza - quality above all. Nothing will compromise this mission and even at a fledgling age like this inaugural release, you can taste how special this whisky is. This is on the way to being one of the great whisky distillers in the world. Very limited quantities of this first edition available.

Booker’s Batch 2019-04 “Beaten Biscuits” was produced on a single date and stored in two warehouses in three locations. The breakdown of barrel storage is as follows: 
 
47% came from the 6th floor of 9-story warehouse H

 11% came from the 4th floor of 7-story warehouse P

 42% came from the 5th floor of 7-story warehouse P  
 
The batch has a deep chestnut color that is elegant, like all batches of Booker’s. The nose has hints of the oak barrel coming through the sweetness, much like the scent of caramel icing for a cake. The finish is medium and very flavorful. I know my Dad would say this is a tasty batch to enjoy with his country ham and prized Beaten Biscuits.
