Diageo's Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Company is a series of bottles that came from barrels that were abandoned or forgotten at rickhouses and distilleries. Aged 4 years longer than the first release, it is slightly more mature and carries a 90.6 proof. The whiskey will continue to be progressively aged and were re-released annually at a year older.

Bottled in 2014, Old Blowhard is the first of the rare vintages of Diageo's Orphan Barrel Series, a series of bottles that come from barrels of bourbon discovered from abandoned or forgotten rickhouses and distilleries. Michter’s Toasted Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey] is made by taking Michter’s US1 Sour Mash Whiskey and then aging it for an additional period of time in a second custom made barrel. This second barrel is assembled from 18-month air-dried wood and then toasted but not charred. It leaves a nice first impression with honey, mint, and oak with subtle bready notes. Michter’s is sweet and slightly bitter with honey, roasted oak, and a dash of coffee grounds. The toasted barrel finishing introduces a little extra oak bitterness and darkness, but it’s not overdone. Vanilla and orange reveal themselves after a few seconds, but the alcohol remains in the background.

This 2024 Limited Edition release is a symphony of lively flavors that captivate the senses with every sip. Creamy vanilla, honey and brown sugar on the nose are followed by the flavors of ripe berries and tangy citrus on the palate. Aged two years longer than the first release, it is slightly more mature and carries a higher proof. The whiskey will continue to be progressively aged and were re-released annually at a year older. However, the earlier releases are now the most desirable for bourbon aficianados. Beginning with hints of toasted grains, cherries, and oak wood, Rhetoric 22 Year Old tastes of toasted oak, dark chocolate with ripe banana, and baking spices of clove and anise. The finish is long and woody, ending with dark chocolate notes.
