It would take him years to bring our unprecedented whisky to life. But in its tiramisu tones and melting chocolate, you can taste his most delicious imaginings.
Signet begins with our precious chocolate malt spirit, made just once a year in our giraffe-high stills. Its espresso-like intensity fills our Distillery with aromas more familiar in an Italian coffee bar.
Over the years, we temper its power with rare and treasured casks. Bourbon for creaminess. Sherry for sweetness. The spice of virgin charred oak. All balanced by some of the oldest whisky we own.
The result? A velvet explosion of flavour. Bursts of bitter mocha, sizzling spice and waves of dark chocolate, mellowed by smooth butterscotch. Whisky, as you have never tasted it before.
“Sour mash” typically refers to a popular method of whiskey making in which a portion of previously fermented mash is used in a new batch. It helps ensure flavor consistency — which isn’t, in fact, sour. In the case of Michter’s, it also refers to a type of whiskey whose mashbill doesn’t contain at least 51% of any single grain. Michter’s added US*1 Sour Mash to its permanent roster in 2012; nearly a decade and a half later, the distillery is releasing its first-ever Barrel Strength Sour Mash as a limited edition.
Michter’s history with Sour Mash actually goes back to its previous incarnation in Pennsylvania, where the distillery had operated under different names since 1753. Michter’s current president, Joe Magliocco, had a summer job selling Michter’s in the late 1970s. “The most popular type produced by the Pennsylvania distillery was Michter’s Sour Mash,” he remembers. “It was a wonderful whiskey that, while not being classified as a rye — which would have been marketing death in those days — was made with a fair amount of rye grain.”
The Pennsylvania Michter’s went out of business in the late 1980s; several years later, Magliocco bought the name and revived the brand in Kentucky. He remembers, “We wanted to honor the heritage of the brand with an interesting and delicious whiskey.”
Magliocco got Michter’s then-master distiller, Willie Pratt, to try to recreate the Sour Mash expression. “While we did not have any recipes for the whiskey produced in Pennsylvania,” Magliocco says, “we did have a lot of old bottles that we could use to target the Pennsylvania version and then compare to the newer version we were creating. “After years of working on it, Willie called me one day and said, ‘I got it!’ I asked Willie, ‘Is it as good as the Pennsylvania Sour Mash?’ He said, ‘No, it’s better.’”
Barrel Strength Sour Mash shines a brighter spotlight on an expression that fans of higher-proof and cask-strength whiskies may have typically overlooked at its standard 43% ABV. The barrel-strength expression is made in exactly the same way, using exactly the same mashbill, as standard Sour Mash — the only difference is that it’s not proofed down with water before bottling. McKee notes that “the average proof of the batches being offered for the first release is 55.75% ABV, which is significantly higher” than the original Sour Mash.
Barrel Strength Sour Mash follows in the footsteps of Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye, which debuted in 2015, and Barrel Strength Bourbon, which bowed in 2017. All barrel-strength expressions are limited editions that are released periodically; the bourbon is currently available exclusively at Michter’s Fort Nelson distillery. Exact quantities of the sour mash are known only to Michter’s, but given that it’s a first-time release from one of America’s most acclaimed whiskey distilleries, it may not stick around for long.

From the distiller:
Over the past few years, we have set aside a selection of our oldest barrels. Upon identifying a magnificent range, we began a meticulous blending process to create the next edition of The Vaults. True to Widow Jane, these barrels were married together only ever in hyper small batches. The result is a bourbon unparalleled in its complexity, yet rarer still for its age. This luxuriant whiskey, once married, was then finished in barrels raised with four-year air-seasoned Chinquapin oak. The finishing barrel’s oak staves were air seasoned for at least 48 months. The track of timber from which this Chinquapin was harvested hails from Northern Kentucky, on a limestone rich shelf, providing ideal soil nutrients and conditions for this rarer species to grow.
Nose: Toasted Marshmallow, Pear Turnover, Honey Dew, Cinnamon
Palate: Honeycomb, Butterscotch, Raisin, Molasses, Dried Apricots, Root Beer
Finish: Pralines & Cream, Roasted Oolong, Black Walnut, Licorice The Vaults 2023 is a limited-edition release worldwide on strict allocation.
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Unforgotten is a high proof, extra-aged variation of the harmonious blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskies, this time finished in rye casks for a secondary aging period in the pre-prohibition Rickhouse B - the favorite rickhouse of Eddie’s father, Master Distiller Jimmy Russell.
In 2010, a crew member accidentally mixed a batch of young rye with a barrel of mature bourbon. Over a decade later, Master Distiller Eddie Russell has leveraged his years of distillation experience to craft Master’s Keep Unforgotten, an extra-aged variation of the harmonious blend of straight bourbon and rye whiskies.
Set beside the canal on a hill overlooking the vibrant city of Glasgow, the Port Dundas Distillery was a prominent local landmark established in 1810, which gave the world two centuries of exceptional whisky. Although Port Dundas closed its doors in 2010, there are select, rare remaining stocks that allow a glimpse into the glorious past of one of Scotland’s most respected and historic distilleries. Muckety-Muck is one of those rare single grain scotches boasting 24 years of aging and is the first single grain scotch for the Orphan Barrel Whiskey Co. The aroma starts with a burst of caramel and notes of baked sugar backed by the taste of crisp fruit and light toasted oak. The fruit forward flavor is blended with hints of butterscotch vanilla which carry through to the finish.
The James B. Beam Distilling Co. and Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Master Distiller, announced the first line extension and inaugural Little Book series, Little Book The Infinite: Edition 1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
The newest release honors more than 200 years of Beam and Noe family history through a blend of whiskeys laid down by three trailblazing American Whiskey distillers: 6th Generation Master Distiller, Booker Noe, 7th Generation Master Distiller Fred Noe, and 8th Generation Master Distiller, Freddie Noe. Little Book The Infinite: Edition 1 will serve as the foundation of the line extension utilizing liquid from generations of the Noe Family through every future release.
In the Fred B. Noe distillery at the James B. Beam Distilling Co.’s Clermont campus, Freddie Noe was experimenting with blending varying aged whiskeys, when he sought to blend barrels his father, Fred Noe, and grandfather, Booker Noe, laid down, resulting in a perfectly balanced profile forming The Infinite.
Each year, new whiskey will be added to the blend, delivering an ever-evolving confluence for a unique experience while pushing the boundaries of flavor and tradition. It’s this initial, proprietary blend that sets the series apart from other Little Book chapters.
High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Whiskey is a limited-release rye whiskey blend finished in port wine barrels and offering lush notes of vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, plum, dried fruit, and spice.
*This is a 2026 bottling of Michter's 10 Year Bourbon*
Mature in age and truly exceptional in quality, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon has earned its place as an enduring favorite of the most discerning whiskey connoisseurs. The “Best American Whiskey” according to Food & Wine magazine, our 10 Year Single Barrel Bourbon represents the culmination of over a decade of patient aging in our specially chosen, new charred American white oak barrels. Sweet and grainy: corn bread slathered in honey, johnnycakes with cherry jam. Fizzy cream soda mixed with a bit of varnish segues into warm leather and a hint of summer-warmed dry grass, which is amplified with water. This is a very well-integrated whiskey with a lovely balance between creamy and spicy. There’s a full, rich, toffee sweetness throughout, balancing the earthy, humus-like bass notes in the mid palate. The finish is also very reminiscent of soda pop, almost giving the impression of carbonation, with a lingering muted spiciness.
**This may be filled with a 700ml or 750ml bottling**
A new dimension of envy—journey into our cellar of curiosities to discover the limited-edition Angel’s Envy Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in French Oak Extra Añejo Tequila Barrels at 104.2 proof (ABV 52.1%).
The bold spice of rye, the depth of French oak, and the nuance of tequila barrels unite in a balanced, elegantly-layered profile.
Nose: Floral and fruit-forward. Toasty vanilla, with a subtle clove smokiness.
Palate: Baking spices and cracked pepper, tempered by herbal agave syrup. Earthy tobacco and brown sugar.
Finish: Soft and balanced, with orange blossom honey, tropical fruits, and a French oak finish.
The robust oak and toffee from this bourbon deftly marries with our hallmark Ruby Port characters. The new addition of Tawny Port-finished bourbon provides the nutty, caramelized fruit character that acts as a bridge between the two flavor profiles. By balancing the bright red berry acidity with the brooding sweetness of dried fruit, we’ve worked to introduce a fresh dimension to this year’s Cask Strength program.
