From 1920 to 1933, the production, sale and transportation of alcohol was banned in the United States due to the ratification of the 18th amendment to the United States Constitution, an era known as Prohibition. Purchasing alcohol was only legal with a medical prescription. At the time, many doctors believed spirits to be a cure for a wide variety of ailments. As such, the U.S. Government granted licenses to six distilleries to bottle medicinal whiskey: one of those distilleries was the George T. Stagg Distillery in Frankfort, KY. Known today as Buffalo Trace Distillery, it is the longest continually-operating distillery in America.

Each year our Master Distillers hand select barrels for this special edition with characteristics unique to that year. Every bottle is marked with the vintage date it was put into oak, along with the year it was bottled and the serial number of the barrel that the Bourbon was drawn from.

The artistry of Angel’s Envy Triple Oak lies in how each barrel’s character enhances the blend. The French oak brings the strongest flavor of all, providing hints of baking spices, chocolate, and cinnamon. It is complemented by the Chinkapin oak, a seasoned local Kentucky oak, which adds notes of caramel, vanilla, and a rich coffee layer. The Hungarian Oak balances the three, providing depth while uniting the finishes into one balanced flavor profile.

The second legendary edition

Introducing… the second legendary edition in the Ardbeg Anthology Collection. Matured for 14 years in a marriage of aromatic Madeira and classic bourbon casks, this rare Ardbeg is inspired by the tale of the lesser-spotted Islay Unicorn.

One dark night after a fête at the Distillery, the clip-clop of hooves was heard echoing around the yard. Those less swayed by mythical tales will tell you it was Rory, the Distillery’s greedy Shetland Pony – known for his ill-temper and devilishly sweet tooth. Others believe something else was afoot.

Distillery workers ventured outside to investigate. Rounding the corner, they witnessed a horse-like creature rearing up against a full moon. A ‘horn’ protruding from its head, it cut a chilling silhouette. The next day, rumours swirled about a sighting of Scotland’s national animal… a Unicorn.

Now of course, questions about a raided ice cream truck, Rory’s unlatched gate, and a strangely wafery-looking horn were levelled at the workers. But they know what they saw! Sure, a greedy-guts pony is plausible, but Islay is a mysterious place.

Like the myth itself, this spirit may appear sweet in nature, but it hides a sinister and smoky twist… not to be underestimated.

Booker's 2024-03 "The Master Distillers Batch"

This batch is named in honor of a group of distillers that I admire greatly. Their work in the late 80s and early 90s helped America fall back in love with bourbon and made the industry what it is today.

This group was made up of legends like my dad, Booker Noe, and some of his peers at other distilleries during this time. These guys— the “elder statesmen” as we call ‘em— paved the way for Master Distillers to get recognized for their craft. They even became the very first class inducted into the Bourbon Hall of Fame. I remember once I was with my dad when they all met up in Chicago for a festival. We were catching up at a bar and to most of the people there, we were just six random guys drinking bourbon. But someone pointed us out to the bartender and said, “you’ve got bourbon royalty in here.” We all laughed and raised our glasses. While it’s true enough now, it wasn’t always like this.

Back in the day, being a Master Distiller just meant running the distillery. But these elder statesmen changed all that, raising the bar for all of us. The job went from spending every waking moment in the distillery, to traveling the world, all the while introducing people to our beloved bourbon. They became spokesmen and celebrities in their own right. They made the job as big as they were. I’ve looked up to these guys my whole life. They showed me the ropes of how to make great whiskey and built my love and respect for everything that goes into the craft. I’m proud to follow in their footsteps and honor them with this batch.

While the year 2000 will be remembered by many for bootcut jeans, flip phones and the elusive millennium bug, it went down in Ardbeg history for very different reasons. 

Following decades of neglect, the Distillery had been saved from extinction by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997 and meticulously restored. As the clock ticked over from 1999 to 2000, Ardbeg was returning to full production. And while the rest of the world partied, with many distilleries shut down in fear of computerised chaos, its dedicated stillmen stayed up all night to keep the spirit flowing.  

Crafted with some of the very first spirit of the millennium, the inaugural edition in the Ardbeg Vintage Y2K series is unlike anything that came before. It was distilled in the historic still which served Ardbeg for 51 years, before being retired in 2001. And with an increased rigour applied to cask selection under the new ownership, the whisky was laid down in some of the finest bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks around.

With Y2K fashion and culture now back with a vengeance, we’re inviting Ardbeggians to turn back time to a remarkable year and enjoy the spirit of Ardbeg Vintage_Y2K.

This is a Benrinnes single malt double matured, first in refill casks for 15 years, followed by a 6-year second maturation in rejuvenated American and European oak wine casks, as well as rejuvenated casks with charred ends. It was bottled at 55.4% ABV and released as part of the Diageo Special Releases 2024 range.

Booker’s ‘The Reserves’ is a very limited release LTO curated by Freddie Noe to commemorate his granddaddy, Booker Noe’s, contributions to the bourbon world. In Freddie’s words, “It’s the kind of bourbon I believe my granddaddy would be making, if he were still here with us now”.

Weller 12 Years Old Year Of The Snake is a limited-edition bottling of Weller, the original wheated bourbon, released exclusively for the Taiwanese market to celebrate the Year of the Snake. Weller is made with wheat instead of rye in the mash bill, giving the bourbon its signature sweet, gentle and smooth character. A long maturation in new oak casks brings complex flavors of vanilla, oak and cinnamon. Weller 12 Years Old Year Of The Snake is presented in a special tube with a gorgeous snake design.

Buffalo Trace Distillery Announces the Winning
Single Oak Project Bourbon
The Holy Grail Project yields invaluable research results

FRANKFORT, FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY (June 18, 2015) – The public has
spoken and Single Oak Project Barrel #80 has been chosen as their favorite bourbon,
while Buffalo Trace Distillery has gained a wealth of information through this research,
such as how entry proof, wood grain, and even the cut of the tree can affect the taste of
bourbon.
Over the past four years, Buffalo Trace Distillery has been incrementally
releasing 192 different bottlings of the Single Oak Project Bourbon and asking whiskey
enthusiasts to vote on their favorite at www.singleoakproject.com. The ambitious goal of
this research was to create the perfect bourbon, based on feedback from bourbon
drinkers. In total, 5,645 people participated in the Single Oak Project which collected
5,086 unique whiskey reviews. On average, each of the 192 whiskies was evaluated 26.2
times.
The Single Oak Project is part of an intensive research project Buffalo Trace
Distillery started back in 1999 by hand-picking and harvesting 96 individual oak trees
with varying wood grains. Each tree would yield two barrels, one from the top half of the
tree and one from the bottom, 192 unique barrels in total.

Seven different variables were studied over the course of the project: recipe
(wheat or rye); entry proof (105 proof or 125 proof); stave seasoning (six months or 12
months); grain size (tight, average, or coarse grains); warehouse (concrete floor or
wooden rick floor); char level (number three or number four char); and tree cut (top or
bottom half of the tree).
The winning bourbon from Barrel #80 was a rye recipe bourbon, entered into a
barrel made from oak harvested from the bottom half of the tree with staves seasoned for
12 months. The grain size of the wood was considered average and the barrel received a
number four char inside. The whiskey entered the barrel at 125 proof and was aged in a
concrete floor warehouse. All of the Single Oak Project bourbons were aged for eight
years.
Along with helping to select the perfect bourbon, the online reviews provided
invaluable whiskey research. For example, bourbons that produced the best aroma were
made with a wheat recipe, entered at 105 proof, and aged in barrels whose staves
seasoned for six months, in wood made from the bottom half of the tree. If flavor is your
most important factor when picking a bourbon, then the research shows barrels made
from the bottom half of the tree were a safer bet. And for those looking for the smoothest
finish, a bourbon aged in barrels from (again!) the bottom half of the tree, but with a
number three char and 9 tree growth rings per inch scored the highest. It is important to
note these results are not intended to speak for the industry and only pertain to Buffalo
Trace Distillery’s whiskeys.
“The knowledge gained from conducting this research experiment is priceless,”
stated Mark Brown, president and chief executive officer of Buffalo Trace Distillery.
“We can now compare and confirm how each of these variables in the bourbon making
process affects the finished product, which will only refine our experimental program and
help us create even better whiskeys in the future.”
Buffalo Trace Distillery is now making plans to start producing the winning
formula from Barrel #80, for future batches of Single Oak Bourbon. Only one frustration
remains, this can’t happen overnight. The oak must be harvested, staves dried for 12
months, and then the bourbon must be aged for eight years. Mark your calendars for the
year 2025!

“Although we’re not quite sure how the tree loggers plan to harvest wood solely from the
bottom half of the trees, we’re eager to get more barrels and start producing more of the
winning Single Oak Project bourbon!”
