For the first time since 2022, Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved the release of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

"It's always a special event for us at Michter's when we bottle and release some whiskey that is over two decades old," commented Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "Unlike Scotch and some other aged spirits, bourbon has to mature in a new barrel. Reaching ages beyond 15 years without the whiskey getting too woody is an achievement that our team strives for. This is an exceptional release, and we only wish we had more to offer."

Since its creation in 1818 by husband and wife, Elisabeth Salmon and Nicolas-Francois Billecart, the Billecart-Salmon Champagne House has remained independent, having preserved all of its know-how and demand for high-quality cuvees for 7 generations.

The vineyard

The Billecart-Salmon vineyard covers 100 hectares from the Cote des Blancs to the Reims mountain. The vines are cultivated and cared for in a traditional manner so that the wine resembles real fruit and to reflect the quality of its Champagne terroir.

Blend

This Brut Rose by the Billecart-Salmon House is the product of a blend of Chardonnay (40%), Pinot Meunier (30%) and Pinot Noir (30%).

This is the ultimate expression of our land, evoking the spirit of the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains that were once surveyed by George Washington. Lost Mountain epitomizes our relentless pursuit of the pinnacle in American winemaking. It is formed from RdV’s granite soil with a foundation of our finest Cabernet-Sauvignon. Gold Spot The Generations Edition

Matured in casks sourced from the Secondo Marco winery of Italy, which infuses this Gold Spot expression with distinctive floral and wine-driven notes.

Nose

Red apples and dark fleshy fruits at first, accompanied by fragrant blossom notes with sweet and woody undertones. Spices of clove and light dustings of nutmeg along with subtle hints of almond slowly come to the fore, complementing the fruits.

Taste

Luscious and sweet with generous servings of red berry compote, toffee apple and raisin. The wine seasoned casks and oak continue to impart delicate tannins, working in tandem with the pot still spices and fruits, while the sweetness adds further intricate flavours, balancing this wonderfully intriguing whiskey.

Finish

Lingering finish which sees the oak slowly fading, allowing the sweet wine and pot still spices to have the last word.

While we regularly sample all our Michter’s barrels to see how our whiskey is aging, we pay even extra special attention to our barrels once they are over 17 years old. At Michter’s we consider 17 to 20 years the “Fork In The Road Point” when certain barrels of whiskey can achieve an extraordinary level of quality. It is these particular barrels that our Master Distiller Dan McKee personally selects for our very limited bottling of Michter’s 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

Bottled through a collaborative distillery partnership we have with Middleburg Barrel Company in Virginia, this is a 19 year cask strength single barrel bourbon, that while we cannot tell you specifically where it was distilled due to NDA's, comes from one of the top 5 volume producing Bourbon Distilleries in Kentucky located in Bardstown.  Our team hand selected a couple private barrels of this and this is the first barrel we are releasing.  These are extremely limited as with the age the angels took quite a share.  On the nose and palate this is extremely rich full of wonderful sweet oak, dry vanilla, and rich fruit.  It's absolutely stunning and extremely rare for what you can get on the market today!
